My husband Ian and I have owned and run the Wine House for 15 years and we have always had a strong focus on giving back in some way. We’ve sponsored kids through the Learning for Life program for a number of years and really believe in the program. Enabling a kid to get a good education or even just removing some of the road bumps to achieving that can have a massive multiplier effect not just on their life but those around them. 

The Wine House does two online sale events per year, one in May and one in November. The winemakers that we work with all support the charity sale by allocating some of their best wines to us at really great prices. We give our members a 48-hour head start on the sale before it opens to the general public and it’s a keenly anticipated event with many of the wines selling out within minutes. We donate 20% of net proceeds from the sale to charity and TSF is now our chosen charity for both sale events.

We believe that investing in kids’ education and life outcomes is an excellent way to channel our fundraising dollars. It really is an investment in the future, and we hope our fundraising efforts can go some way to helping disadvantaged kids reach their potential. We believe TSF is perfectly placed to deliver the programs that can change lives.

I think we have been successful because it’s a win-win for our customers and our business. Our customers know that purchasing wines in the sale also contributes to our fundraising efforts and that feeds back to the success of the sale. So, I guess if you can find a fundraising event that benefits everyone rather than just asking people to donate then it will have a better chance of success.
